As a teacher with 5 credits (which includes dual credit, 2 publications, and a senior project showcase) on top of being a club sponsor, a mother of a toddler, a wife, and someone who is horrible at saying no, I’ve had to learn how to prioritize my time and to do lists. In this session, we’ll go over strategies & mindsets to help manage the onslaught of the daily grind without necessarily buying 3 planners and covering your desk in post-its. Establishing Expectations during the First Six Weeks of School
Establishing clear expectations during the first six weeks of school is crucial for creating a positive and productive learning environment. These early weeks set the tone for the remainder of the school year. By investing in these early weeks to build a solid foundation, you will reap the benefits all year. Establishing clear expectations early on and consistently reinforcing them, you can create a positive and structured learning environment where students feel supported, engaged, and motivated to succeed. In The First Days of School: How to be an Effective Teacher, Harry Wong wrote, “The number one problem in the classroom is not discipline; it is the lack of procedures and routines.” At the end of this presentation participants will be able to set up their elementary classroom for success by using positive teacher language to establish high academic and behavioral expectations, and by effectively teaching classroom and academic routines that enable collaborative learning to thrive.
